Kenya Veterinary Association
The Kenya Veterinary Association (K.V.A.) is a professional membership association of all veterinarians in Kenya registered under The Veterinary Surgeons Act Cap 366, Laws of Kenya, whose code of ethics is enforced by the Kenya Veterinary Board. The association is guided in its operations by objectives which range from safe guarding the welfare of the veterinarian, guaranteeing animal health and welfare, maintaining the integrity of the veterinary profession, continuing profession development as well as local/international exchange of information.

Several challenges face the profession including an ageing veterinary department, unemployment of veterinarians, a poorly regulated veterinary pharmaceutical sector, presence of quacks, the difficulty of institutionalizing community based animal health workers, poor policies and inadequate funding for the animal resources sector. The K.V.A. has been at the forefront in lobbying and supporting the revival of the Animal Resource Industry with stakeholders who include the government, to ensure that this potentially very lucrative industry develops that the economy of the country can thrive through the engine of animal resources.

 

Quack Agrovets will be our Death!

The rate and manner in which Agrovet shops are being opened and managed throughout the country is worrying, not only to the health of the animals but also that of the public at large. It’s quite clear that active pharmacological elements are sipping steadily into the human food chain and eventually into our bodies, considering the many unqualified hands that are currently handling veterinary pharmaceuticals in sheer contravention of the Veterinary Surgeons and the Pharmacy and Poisons Acts.
